Tennessee Press Release:
"The Tennessee Republican Party welcomes Michelle Obama, wife of Barack Obama, to Nashville today, where she's the guest of honor at a Tennessee Democratic Party fundraiser.

To welcome Mrs. Obama to Nashville and Tennessee, we asked a few Tennesseans to take a few moments to tell her what makes them proud of their country. Viewers will find their statements stand in stark contrast to two incidents in February when Mrs. Obama announced that for "the first time in my adult life" she was proud of America.

And while Mrs. Obama has trouble being proud of the country where she earned degrees from Princeton University and Harvard Law School and then became a multi-millionaire, her husband makes statements that belittle average Americans' response to the difficulties of life, including his recent statement that, in tough times, "it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

The Tennessee Republican Party has always been proud of America. To further honor the occasion of Mrs. Obama's visit, the Tennessee Republican Party has requested the playing of patriotic music by radio stations across the state".

  • is it not amazing that barack could pay for the best schooling through student loans and hard work. or being born of mixed race based in immigration. or freedom of religion without persecution (except from GOP). or making something outta middle america kansas. or.....

    the GOP claims ownership over these things but does not somehow own the current economic downfall, disastrous foreign policy, the stripping of privacy, the lack of funding to schooling, the suppression of minorities, the loss of world-caliber test scores, the damages of free trade, the failed war in iraq and every other thing that has hurt what the constitution and america stands for.

  • You know what I am proud of being an american. I proud when I come onto Current.com and read the messages from white americans that don't go for this BS that old americans are trying to protray. We must come together or we will be lost.

    After 911, we have start pulling together, regardless of the roles that they played in 911. Other countries are going to take heed to the hatred we have for each other and refuse us when we need them. I don't remember any foreign countries volunteering when 911 happen. I do recall them saying that they are very sorry about what happen but If I am not mistaken, I don't recall any money coming from them.

    When are we going to wake up. Mexico is sending its people over here to work, but did you know that Mexico will not allow immigrants from USA to work. You have to come with money and believe me, there is no work for us there although its not work for most of their people but they don't hire americans.

    500 years and we are still hating on each other because of color. Since its about Race, who do you think will win, if a nuclear bomb hits here. I think none of us.

  • It's amazing how her statement was twisted and turned around. As an American and a Black women in America, I total agree, there are many days I'm not proud to shout it out from the roof top. You know like when a unarmed black man is shot after his bachelor party, the cops get off and his widow gets arrested for protesting . Or when Bush speaks on behalf of Americans to the rest of the world. As side from that being an American is cool.
