A man tore the head from a controversial waxwork figure of Adolf Hitler on the opening day of Berlin's Madame Tussauds museum on Saturday, police said.
The 41-year-old man was arrested, the police added in a statement. A police spokesman said that the man ripped off the head in protest at the exhibit.
Only one ball and now headless.

HA! That guy should have put the head on a spike and gone on parade round Berlin!
Wait...that's sick isn't it?-

Excellent! A bold statement against the horrific acts this man perpetrated on millions of his own people.
-
Very Sick yeah
-
Just one man how long was the line. Did they have
George Bushes head there ? How long was that line, hes as popular as Hitler!!! -
Meaningless and inappropriate. But very funny indeed.
I just feel bad for those 25 people who spent four months working on the statue only to find it headless on the opening day of the exhibition. -
Maybe the lesson here is, don't make wax work models of mass murderers?

I figured something like this would happen but wow it didn't take that long.
-
It is quite funny, but not necessarily a very effective form of protest. The wax figure's facial expression and the chilling setting chosen for the Berlin exhibition showed Hitler as a broken and utterly pathetic and weak man and maybe that would have been a much more powerful means of dealing with his tragic legacy.
-
on one hand its great and amazing and funny
but on the other its exactly what the @@@ would get a kick from -
It's a wax figure. He tore the head off a wax figure. He's 41. He was not part of that historical time, at all. Therefore his anger stems from where? No where justified. If people who have been through the holocaust can stay away from the exhibit or see it without getting mad so should someone that never even been through anything close to the Holocaust.
People can have two year old fits all they want over a wax figure and how it was there and cheer like a three year old peeing in the grass....but the fact remains no one should forget what Hitler did nor what he looked like.
Have more maturity and walk away. It's not a remarkable statement and it's childish to think that such has harmed a dead man or those that worship him. -
yeah.... go J_jammer...
This is bad and you know what because ripping of someone's head doesnt reverse the damage.. and also because:
1. when the the wax figure was supposed to be installed, the story was on current. and this is what i posted:
i applaud HITLER... yes you read that right....
hes a man that turned a war-torn , hungry, destroy Germany into a world power in less than a decade and made it strong enough to take on some of the biggest world powers at a time... no one can cause a change that magnificent in the US or UK or Japan or w.e 2day... it takes a genius to do this....
that said.. he was also an A-hole for the third reich and the jew-extermination and creepy world-domination agenda.......
and number 2. history cannot be denied no matter how crappy, cruel or disgusting it is.... the whole point of history is to document everything so that it could be used in the future -
Just a pity he didn`t do the deed 70 years earlier.
He may have been annoyed at Hitler himself as he may have been the cause of the bomb that dropped on his grandads fish shop in Liverpool depriving the scousers of their fish and chip suppers.
Still look on the bright side it must have made the guy feel better-

I can't wait for someone to make a George Bush wax figure. I bet you dollars to donuts someone goes ape crazy on it quicker then a Hitler statue.
-
Hitler was a monster. Anyone with half a brain knows this.
Ripping the head off a wax figure - private property, in a museum for @#$%'s sake - is a childish and inappropriate thing to do - I don't think the figure was honoring Hitler so much as it was a visual representation of an extremely important time in Germany's history.
Denying it or burying it or attacking its representation doesn't make it go away.
This guy is a jackass. -
umm what about farting on it is that ok ?
-
What a tit
im sure it was there to kill jews. good thing he ripped the head off.
Nob -
Great. Now Hitler's body will ride through Sleepy Hollow in search...of...his...um...
That can't be right. -
Hitler was an insane genius that did great things for good and evil.
-
it portrayed him in the bunker , defeated - that he was displayed in this fashion , and not standing proud at a nuremberg rally , is telling - it "means" that modern germany is willing to accept it's past and admit that hitler was "wrong" , which also implies that this figure was a gesture taken to heal wounds , exactly like any of the monuments erected in memory of hitler's victims . this is how "history" gets written and interpreted , it's how "dialogue" occurs . the person in question in this instance should be prosecuted exactly like any other individual committing a similar crime . this display , in fact , worked in the interests of anyone not inclined to like hitler .
-
was the man a jew? if so he should be able to do that

J-Jammer is right, WW2 was over 60 years ago. That guy never lived through the war. I think it is importent to remember what Hitler did to the jews, and not just the jews, he had enough hate to spread around. He sent homosexuals to the camps and gas chambers too! Don't forget he wanted to take over the world for his 3rd. reich. which was supposed to last for 1000 years! Yes we need to remember what the face of evil looks like. And we need to teach the younger generations to never forget, and never let it happen again.
-
Here in Germany, the cops should have shutdown Madame Tussauds and and arrested the manager. In all fairness the guy was just following the German constitution. It is every citizen's responsibility to protect the constitution, in the face of political power. A bizarre concept for our American cousins.

all germans were not Nazis . german society as a whole should never be made to feel guilty for hitler , any more than the rest of the world should hate americans for bush . members of hitler's own staff tried to kill him - whose tried to kill bush ?
-
i feel bad for all those workers who slaved for months over that wax model.

I would have done the same thing!! Why would we glorify such a horrible person. He finally got what he deserved, He totally took the easy way out. Imagine what would have happened if someone got a hold of him when he was actually alive. Look what happened to Mussolini

That is quite a brave gesture to rip his head apart. The sad thing is that we still have many people in the world acting and ruling our society like Hitler. Just look around you!

good for him, Hitler shouldn't be in a freakin museum unless bad things are written about him on a big huge poster right next to it.
-
his mother should have gone through with the abortion.

Interesting story. Even more interesting how this story has been here since the beginning of the day. I just saw this story come up on Yahoo. Shows how Current is a little bit ahead of the ball =]

It IS wrong to destroy private property like that - especially when someone will have worked for hours and hours on it...that said though...I can kind of understand why the guy did it.
Afterall - it's a period of history that still lives in some people's minds - very vividly. Genocide of a people is not easy to forgive or forget and I can see why this man's frustrations have boiled over in this case.

maybe this man had a phobia of candles... crazy, mass murdering, bigoted candles. can't say i blame him.

It's too bad that all the while, the Bush administration is performing the same domination tactics that Hitler displayed when he tried for his genocide driven New World Order, and yet this man finds it more productive to rip the head off of a wax sculpture, dwelling on things that are LONG over, all the while failing to learn the lessons that could easily keep anything like that from ever happening again.

Why didn't he just steal the real Hitler's head? You know, the one frozen in the CIA basement that is hooked up to life-support and gives Dick Cheney advice?
