To Whom It May Concern:
During her speech in St. Paul on Wednesday night, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin purported to speak for women, small town residents, and everyone who is a member of the Washington elite.
Sarah Palin is an intelligent, well spoken woman, but it must be made clear:
We don't want a country in which women who are raped are refused the right to choose abortion.
We don't want a country in which religious dogma is taught in public school science class.
We don't want a country where gay and lesbian citizens are discriminated against.
We don't want a country where books are banned from public libraries.
America is strongest when we are united, not divided. When our Constitutional liberties are respected. When our politicians rely on ideas and opinions instead of distortions and attacks. The challenges we face are too big to be reduced to name-calling.
Sarah Palin doesn't speak for us.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

I completely agree with this. As a woman, Hillary Clinton supporter and feminist I was open to Sarah Paulin's vice presidential nomination, however after hearing her speech I've found that her politics do not reflect the best interest of women.
As women, we cannot simply vote for someone because of their gender. We must consider the salience of issues that are important to us. We must create change and stand up for our best interests.

I'm not a feminist, I'm a conscious thinker. Not sure why feminist would even consider Paulin even before we have found out what a dangerous person she would be for our country. Barack supports equal pay. He has 2 daughters and a wife who is highly educated and influential. Paulins views on abortion is certifiably insane. Her "praying" for pipe lines to enrich her state and constant denial of science is ignorant. She is no different than Fallwell, Robertson, and Bob Jones. She claimed to save her state money by selling her "tax payer" jet. The thing she doesn't add is she lost money on the deal. So technically, she lost money for the tax payers. Great speaker I guess you could say. But making fun of being a community organizer and doing the same, " we have nothing to really offer so we will just attack the other side", is at best predictable. I love this forum!! thanks for all the post. Jb

"why don't you make the same thing but for blacks"? Huh? I did one time hear something about "the sea" making a man go mad. Your not foaming at the mouth are you? But serious, what's your point? And it's no surprise Obama doesn't speak for you because your probably LOL while he's given an educated speech. I know Bush is easier for you to comprehend!!! jb

Source:The Tax Policy Centerwow mr navy guy, looks to me a vast majority of Americans a getting far less of their income taxed than McCains plan. And you do realize there are more whites on welfare than African Americans. And why would Obama want to take away money from people who work hard. His policies don't reflect that. To me, they reflect that of a Christian man who realizes the complexities of poverty and truly wants to help those who are willing to help themselves. Not sure of your environment growing up as child, but a lot of children's parents don't even get the appropriate prenatal care because of lack of education and no real health care system. This leads to many children in poor areas to be born under weight. But I guess "those" people don't count. Maybe a little compassion?? No, their just lazy!! God was white anyway. "This way he wants to take from working people and give to welfare class". You continuous riddles continue to confuse me. I guess the bush years have somewhat numbed you from reality. Sorry your hero is hovering around 29% !! My thoughts are with you. jb

Oh, and Wright speech I'll address another time, But I will say this now. Nothing in that speech is anymore damning than what Jerry Farewell, Bob "don't let them coloreds mix with our whites" Jones, or Pat "God sent Katrina to punish the homosexuals" Robertson. Sadly Pat didn't mention the poorest of the poor were the one's most affected. Thanks for posting the Rev Wright speech. Other than be highly edited for an intended audience, i should know, I edit for a living, he had some really fascinating things to say. "Chickens coming home to hatch" , that's true and a nice way to to put it. Our foreign policy is troubling to say the least. We support plenty of terrorist. Saudis?? Weren't their citizens the majority of the hijackers? Ok, said I'm not getting into it now. I know a lot want agree, and i respect that, but after just listening to Wright's speech, though highly edited and pieced together, I would say I agree with 90 % of it. Obama doesn't. Read his books, listen to his friends and family, speeches, and he just doesn't come off as angry. He and Wright grew up in different times. I see injustice everywhere. Especially in a country I love. But don't trust!! And by the way, Tuskegee never happened !! No documentation. I think I just felt navy guy not getting it! Will break it down another time. jb

"As a woman who has for years worked in a "man's profession," I believe that feminism is about reshaping the systems that have been so difficult and unhealthy for women, men, children and the planet; not about women getting power and simply perpetuating the same unhealthy policies. Sarah Palin's positions on most issues would do nothing to change the systems that perpetuate lack of economic and reproductive choice and for women, perpetuate stress related illness in men, keep thousands of children in poverty, and continue destroying the planet we were given by God to take care of. That's why, as a feminist and a Christian Minister, I won't vote for the Republican ticket just because it includes a woman."
