Today, DJs from all over the US gathered in Washington to show their displeasure at an industry which routinely deprives them of fair payment, business opportunities and guidance, and health insurance. Protesters will also be able to discuss legal issues and developments surrounding releases of mixes.

Maybe DJ's need to make a union so they can strike whenever they get upset about something.

Then we'd sit up and take notice...

Probably the most underappreciated aspect of music is the Dj, im proud my brothers got organized . Now its just time for Washington to sit on their hands as usual .

I agree that if they didn't exist some people wouldn't know about certain music...and the record labels should appreciate that their bands get noticed because of DJs.

I think that DJs should pay for the use of songs in mixed cds or whatever, but not an arm and a leg. They did the mixing that was some work there doing it and doing it right. So they have some rights as well.

Not paying a DJ for their hard work shouldn't even been considered. I hope that place got blacklisted by the DJs themselves. That would show that you can't just use someone's services and not pay them for it.

It would seem the music licensing industry needs to be remixed.

Looks like there in the wrong part of the world, a local DJ in a small club playing Top 40 Music could lift around £150.

Dj's who make it such as John Digweed, Sasha and Tiesto are paid £££££ per night playing in places such as Dubai, Vancouver, Tel Aviv almost weekly. Sounds like a great life!

DJ's that complain about a $150 night should step it up, and their pay would follow. As a DJ i have proof of this method. my first gig paid around 200, from there it just kept increasing, along with my skill and uniqueness. Not just anyone can be a DJ. You must offer something that can only be bought from you.

Its hard to be a dj as every 1 will guess its all about the ass kiss and who you no.

I have been doing it for a number of years and seen people who are not that good get put on over you is quite damaging to a persons well being.

I personally fell that pay is not an issue if you love to do some thing your going to do it any way, i just wish that more up and coming dj's and producers would get more chances to be exhibit their skill to the public..
