Last month's US bomb attack in the Herat province in Afghanistan is being re-investigated after video footage of the aftermath has surfaced. For weeks after the attack, the US reported the death toll of 35, maintaining that only 7 killed were civilians and the majority killed were militants. Local residents claimed that the attack was much worse, and that an estimated 90 civilians, including 60 children, were killed. The footage that has emerged, according to UN officials, shows dozens of dead bodies -- mainly women and children -- giving credibility to the resident's claims. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been under huge pressure from Afghanistan's people to demand justice for the attacks. He continually warns the US and Nato that civilian deaths undermine his control and damage the reputation of foreign forces.

There seems to be a pattern there - the US military strongly denying wrongdoing until incontrovertible evidence to the contrary turns up. This has happened many times over the past six years.

This isn't really new, and historical parallels go way back, at least to WWI, if not earlier. States by their nature must ignore or minimize actual human loss in order to maintain public sympathies and continued support. Why else would the US ban images of soldiers coming back in caskets, much less acknowledging dead Afghans.

Leadership, leadership, leadership. As our commander-in-chief leads, so our troops follow. The more deception, trickery, and propaganda that comes out of the White House, the more of it we see from our military.

G.W. Bush has not only failed to bring dignity and honor to the White House, his personal brand of dishonor and ignominy now stains virtually every institution in our government.

    Heck of a job, Georgie.

The Bush Administration has been lying for the past eight years, why would they stop themselves now? For Republicans, they seem to have no clue how to run the economy or a war effectively.

I think its funny how the republican and bush administration act like this war is fine, like nothing bad is happening here. I bet you get them out on the battlefield where they have to fight for their lives and they'd run like bitches. Or go find a hole to hide in.

Sky News have an amateur video of the alleged victims of the US Afghan airstrike.

There is some graphic content in the video, and an annoying video before it starts.
