When Hurricane Ike got as far north as Ohio, the media called it the “remnants” or “remains” of the storm. For millions of working-class households here, that was a poor choice of words. While the suffering in Ohio cannot compare to Texas, the damage in 84 of Ohio’s 88 counties was enough for the governor to declare a state of emergency.

The power is back on , but has only just been so for everyone. We were out a week and my husband is one of those dependent on oxygen. An apartment for the elderly was out for 11 days.

The most dangerous parts are mainly after the storm has passed. I wish our govt would really look more into small individual weather-resistant solar modules for hospitals, apartment buildings, police stations, gas stations. etc. It can keep power going long after the storms so people can keep functioning in that crisis.
