1. There a part of the people that are students
2. There a part that are employees at Current
3. Then there are people that are really aware of what is going on and that is not that many
4. Then there are the kids...
5. And the other part is... well
Let see if you can guess, throw me a bone! Because I already figure that out.

So how did you come to determine this?
There are also semi-professional journalists, artists, djs, filmakers, musicians and just flat out post whores.
At least some of the post whores are putting out some good stuff (I'm looking at you Vierotchka lol)

Stopnoise, there are not only Americans posting on Current, and we all live on one small world in which everything is interconnected. What happens in Asia or Africa or Australia does have a global effect - it's the butterfly flapping its wings phenomenon. Also, people have different interests, and we should not concentrate all our attention on only one or two subjects.
We live in a highly diverse world, and religion does have an effect on politics, and vice versa. Culture IS important, and also has a far-reaching effect on people's thoughts and actions. Understanding other people's cultures is, in my opinion, very important. Parochialism is not the answer, don't you think?
We all have different priorities, we can express and share them on Current - this expands our understanding.
Anyhow, these are just a few of my thoughts as I listened to you. :)
What is local news for one is news from the other side of the world for another.

Stopnoise!! Loved it man! I really like what you said! Looks like a new news show! "Comments on Comments"... very unique!!
It is frustrating to see a lot of people arguing about issues they can do nothing about & then ignoring the issues that they can do something about... but I think people have many different reasons for posting what they post.
I agree about religion... there's a lot of haters out there but isn't that wrong? Especially because it is hypocritical? It looks like they are doing exactly the thing they don't like about many people in religion... hating others not like them. It doesn't solve the problem to just hate... religion is definitely cultural so why is it we have lost respect for different cultures? This goes against all conventional & scholarly thought. I was taught to respect & learn from others... why is this seen as stupid & ignorant by so many?
I have also noticed many of these 'problems' you mention on current (i have noticed the same types of discussions on many other video hosting sites & forums as well)... but I think current should be given a break & here's why...
Current is brave enough to open the gates to new ideas & that includes new ways to get the stories that interest YOU the public out into the public's hands... to do with as you will! WE participate in this creation of news & I know you would probably say "So why aren't we distinguishing ourselves from the mass media & talking from a more personal & unique perspective?? Why aren't WE controlling the story??" The answer is that we ARE... we just aren't used to having this freedom to create the news... so much of our information & expression is dulled by our experience with the "mass media" & the knowledge we already have (which isn't much). We- just like much of the news- has a personal agenda behind it... a bias. But this is also seen as unavoidable. As a result all of this sameness still kinda "looks like" news to us. But many people here (like you) are a little more creative with your stories & I really appreciate that! :)
I tend to give a little more slack on people because we have been 'spoon fed' the news like little kids for so long that we really don't (metaphorically) know how to walk yet in this new news environment & we (as the general public) ARE a bit ignorant as a result. Even if we were to reveal the truth... who would throw down the shackles of untruth they have learned to love for so long only to grasp the difficult truths that exist in the real world? It IS difficult... not to mention... Like you said... the problem is people. Many people find it too hard to live lives of intellectual or cultural freedom... they live their lives filled with fear... fear of being judged. after all it is their own bigotry of others that makes them feel that they cannot be free to journey away from the pack & do something new & different. They have created their own prison of 'sameness' so they will probably now resign themselves to live in it.
I think (as it comes to current) it'll be cool to see what comes out of it... hopefully we will keep the freedom alive to express ourselves on the internet & we will really publish stories that will help change the world into a good place... not a socially repressive place. The more knowledge the better! But the more we hate & are bigoted the more we will want to control & destroy. It isn't a cultural problem it is a human problem.
Not just in America, but in many places now, you can choose whatever culture you want to learn from or follow but you should never impose your own culture on others. Never! ...thats my own personal opinion.
I hope to see more "Comments on Comments" in the future!

interesting comments though a bit of a scattergun approach. If you say that no one talks about it, then you need to "talk about it."
The thing about news is that people can't report on things they don't know about but I hear you about what gets voted on. Current is geared to the youth market of under 25 year olds so it's trying to hold onto a hip image.
As for international news, one of the major complaints about Americans is that we are so American-centric that we don't care or are unaware about other countries.
As for local news, I live in Japan so that is local news for me. I can't report much on politics back home because I'm not there enough (even though I did report about what was going on outside the debates in Nashville a few weeks ago).
I think it's important to show cultural items of other countries to open people's minds to the wider world.

I am not actually criticizing the hip generation for their need of hip news and daily excitement. What I want to know it is, ---what is going on with you, in your own community? What is happening in the local levels of our Communities in the US. We never get to see any news from locals. Should I assume that people are afraid to show what is going on with their own lives and Community?
