8 Sex toys you didn't know you had
"What did women do before vibrators were readily available? They did these common items perfect for keeping house and happy. Now we understand how housewives get their satisfied smile. After the jump, the hush-hush household tricks of the trade with 10 homemade sex toys you didn’t realize you owned.
1. Back Massager You can get a cheap-o back massager at any drug store, but we’re willing to bet nine out of 10 are really used on backsides. Bonus if you’ve got one with big handle!
2. Washing Machine/Dryer Two words: spin cycle. Like a good roll in the hay, you have to wait for the moment when it’s right. Hop on, get off, clean house.
3. Cell Phone on Vibrate There are pricey remote control toys, but you can also go the poor man’s route and simply use your cell phone. No awkward remote, just set your phone on vibrate, wrap it in saran wrap to protect it, affix it to your panties, and have your man give you a call. We’re pretty sure this is what the old AT&T slogan, “reach out and touch someone,” was really talking about.
4. Electric Tooth Brush Designed to get between hard to reach places, this vibe is tough on tartar, but gentle enough for clits. Plus, they’re often rechargeable so you won’t have to keep replacing batteries! Use the brushless side and feel the sweet scrubbing action.
5. Bath Tub Faucet Everyone talks about a hand-held massaging shower head, but it doesn’t have a thing on a plain old bathtub. Lie on your back, with your legs up against the wall so you form a human 90-degree angle. Turn the water on, keep it cool, and get wet!
6. Electric Razor Any electric razor worth its price in batteries can take care of your unwanted hair and your horniness.Gillette is onto our little sexy secret and has released a battery operated, disposable razor called the “Venus Vibrance Soothing Vibrations Razor for Women.” Mmm hmm, since when has a razor sounded so...sexy?
7. Tickle Me Elmo A lot of women get their start with self love by humping a pillow. This is similar, only the little cuddler vibrates!
8. Blanket/Throw/Quilt Lay on your back (naked, obvi), hold onto one end of the blanket with your feet and the other with your hands, and then rock your hips up and down as you rub the taut fabric between your legs. Presto!" "What did women do before vibrators were readily available? They did these common items perfect for keeping house and happy. Now... more -
Shops reject same-sex wedding cards
"A manager says seven Hallmark greeting card stores in the Treasure Valley will not carry the company's new same-sex marriage cards.
Cassi Jacobsen, an assistant manager for the Jordan's Hallmark store in Nampa's Karcher Mall, says the family that owns the seven area stores has decided against carrying the new line of greeting cards.
She said the owners were out of town and not immediately available for comment.
Hallmark added the cards after California joined Massachusetts as the only U.S. states with legal gay marriage. A handful of other states have recognized same-sex civil unions.
The language inside the cards is neutral, with no mention of wedding or marriage, making them also suitable for a commitment ceremony. Hallmark says the move is a response to consumer demand, not any political pressure.
"It's our goal to be as relevant as possible to as many people as we can," Hallmark spokeswoman Sarah Gronberg Kolell said.
Hallmark says all of its stores can choose whether they want to add the latest offerings.
Reaction to the cards has been mixed.
Idaho Values Alliance Executive Director Bryan Fischer sent out a press release Thursday calling for local-area Hallmark stores not to carry the cards.
"Hallmark, the venerable greeting card company, is doing nationwide what 48 states and the federal government have refused to do, and that is to recognize homosexual marriage," Fischer wrote.
But Delmar Stone of Nampa, executive director of the National Association of Social Workers - Idaho Chapter, called the cards "wonderful."
Jody May-Chang, the Boise editor of the gay rights Web site PrideDEPOT.com, called the decision a bullying tactic.
Hallmark's largest competitor, American Greetings Corp., has no plans to enter the market, saying its current offerings are general enough to speak to a lot of different relationships." Forbidden Love: Mixed-Race Couples Face Violence in Pennsylvania Town
They are united by their love for each other, their children and their commitment to maintain a strong family. But every day, they must contend with disapproving looks and, sometimes, insults shouted at them because they belong to different ethnic groups.
This is the story of the many couples in interracial relationships, mostly white women and Mexican men, who live in the town of Shenandoah, Pa. This summer, the town garnered national media attention when a group of white teenagers killed a Mexican man who had a white girlfriend.
Amid an environment of racial harassment, these couples also live with the uncertainty that they could one day be separated because their partner is not in the United States legally.
This is the case of Ruben*, a 39-year-old Mexican, who came to Shenandoah 10 years ago and lives with his partner of five years, 28-year-old Susan*.
Marriage is not a possibility for Ruben, who entered the country illegally and would need to return to Mexico and wait for 10 years before gaining legal status. He prefers to stay here with his three children and his girlfriend, ignoring the occasional insults shouted at him in the street by white teenagers, who call him a "dirty Mexican" or a "wetback."
Susan says she has also been the object of disapproving glances and comments for having a Mexican partner.
"It doesn't happen every day, but occasionally they've told me that I'm dirty to be with a 'dirty Mexican,'" says Susan. "I feel more welcome in the Latino community," she adds.
Susan sadly recalls the life of Luis Martinez and his girlfriend, Crystal Dillman, who suffered similar harassment on many occasions. On July 12, Martinez was beaten by four white teenage boys as they yelled racial slurs at him. He died 30 hours afterwards in a local hospital.
Dillman, a mother of three — two with Martinez — did not get married because the couple had planned to move to Mexico, far from the insults and stares of Shenandoah. She says Shenandoah residents have screamed "dirty Mexican," at her boyfriend on various occasions.
Another couple that has faced the hostile environment of Shenandoah is 32-year-old Felipe* and his girlfriend, Anne*. A native of Guanajuato, Mexico, Felipe works as a gardener and has lived for six years with Anne and their two children, who are two and four years old.
Although they may get married, Felipe says he doesn't want to. "I don't want people to say that she married me so I could get my papers," he says. "I am with her because I love her."
Anne says she respects his decision, but hopes that he can change his mind: She knows single mothers in Shenandoah whose undocumented partners have been deported.
Yet, discrimination in East Pennsylvania is not limited to Latino men and white women. Latina women who are dating white men are also harassed.
Ana Taveras, who is Dominican, is married to Raymond Schuman. The couple, who lived together for seven years before they got married and had a 5-year-old daughter together, still faces discrimination. Living in Hazelton, Pa., Taveras says she has to listen to people tell her husband that "'he could have done better.'"**continues** They are united by their love for each other, their children and their commitment to maintain a strong family. Love Your Body Day
Ignore the “perfect bodies” surrounding you (thanks to MAJOR photo-editing.) Ignore the unrealistic self-images you’re faced with everywhere you turn. SO WHAT. Love yourself anyway… you have 3 weeks to do it. Love Your Body Day is October 15th.
DOVE is on top of things. Their “Campaign for Real Beauty” is innovative and inspiring, and other companies are quickly catching on. The latest trend in marketing means being REAL, (score!) And REAL men and women are completely perfect within their imperfections. DOVE has brilliantly started with our future by targeting young women around the world and providing self-esteem classes. This project is supposed to reach 5 million young ladies by the end of 2010, and every time you purchase DOVE products you help to support this ultra-worthy cause.
The NOW organization also works intensely to help young women everywhere realize their true beauty, and learn the truth about what “beauty” is. The pics included with this article are the 2008 “Love Your Body Campaign” poster winners, who obviously have a tremendous grip on the real definition of beauty, and incredible heads on their shoulders.
But what about you? October 15th will come FAST, and the world around you is filled with distractions and false images of “beauty.” What’s the best way that you can love your body NOW? Change your state of mind. Escape from the glitz and glam of the edited photos and make mental note about all of the things you love about your REAL self. Make time to pamper yourself and know that you deserve it. Grab a pedicure on your way to the grocery store or make a massage appointment after what you know will be a stressful week. Challenge yourself to stay positive and feel good...and don’t be afraid to push your limits. Know when you’re in “negative-mode” and teach yourself how to turn it off. Be the best “you” that you can be. No one else can do it for you. You’re already gorgeous. You just have to KNOW it. Good luck, hottie. I’ll check back on October 15th, (wink, wink.) Proof that the butterfly effect can change the world
"In July last year, a butterfly landed on my shoulder while I was taking a break from my office for a few minutes one afternoon to talk business with a colleague. I was sure the butterfly would soon fly off. We were walking through an L Street canyon near 19th Street NW that was surrounded by granite, concrete and glass. I had never seen a butterfly in this part of the city before. Now I had one clinging to me. It migrated to my shirt collar and stayed there.
After half an hour or so, with my new friend still perched on me, I decided that I should have a picture taken to record the butterfly's remarkable arrival out of nowhere. So together we ducked into a MotoPhoto shop on 19th Street, just north of L.
The gentleman running the photo shop seemed to find nothing unusual about a man walking around with a butterfly on his collar and began clicking away with his camera. I thought that his flash would scare the butterfly away, but my little pal stayed put.
I decided to get the butterfly something to eat at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse across the street. My colleague Catherine Antoine and I plunged into the rush-hour traffic on 19th, slipping between cars that were jammed together waiting for the light to change. Neither the noise nor the fumes seemed to bother the butterfly ..."

Free Gaza Boats Arrive in Gaza
Gaza – Ma'an – The Free Gaza ships docked Saturday at aproximately six o'clock local time in the Gaza port. The two wooden boats were greeted by hundreds of Gazans and journalists who lined the beach and piled into boats to welcome the activists.
The group will stay in Gaza for at least ten days, first attending a conference on the situation, then touring the entire Gaza Strip to see first hand what the seige has done to the area. Officials said it was possible that the crew will meet local political leaders, though no decision has been made.
As the crew pulled into the port, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called the ships to congratulate them on the voyage, and thank them for their perseverence.
Palestinian de facto Prime Minister of the Gaza Strip Ismail Haniyeh gave an interview, and said that the voyage succeeded because of the enduring Palestinian spirit of steadfastness. He called the Free Gaza project a "seige smashing" success, and thanked the crew for their efforts.
Earlier Saturday the Israel cabinet meeting decided that the country would allow the Free Gaza ships to dock in the Gaza port despite earlier warnings from the Foreign Ministry that force might be used to prevent docking.
Israeli press reported their Foreign Ministry spokesman Aviv Shiron as issuing the statement, saying he gave no reason for the change in policy.
Earlier Saturday 11 boats and 20 journalists launched boats from the Gaza beach to meet the Free Gaza ships for their scheduled noon arrival. The boats returned to shore, however, after warning shots were fired around three o'clock, and the siege-breaking vessels were still not within sight.
Problems with navigation equipment which the crew blames on signal-jamming radio waves broadcast by Israel, delayed the arrival of the ships.
Originally expected to dock in the early afternoon, the estimated time of arrival for the wooden boats is between five and seven this evening.
Twenty journalists had launched 11 boats from the Gaza beach in order to receive the Free Gaza ships coming from Cyprus to break the siege, but almost all have returned to shore.
Palestinian citizens have been waiting for the ships to arrive since morning, though they are not in sight yet.
At 10am local time the crew of the Free Gaza released the following statement to the project's organizers:
"The electronic systems which guarantee our safety aboard the SS Free Gaza and SS Liberty have been jammed and scrambled. Both ships are flying Greek flags, and are in international waters. We are the victims of electronic piracy. We are currently in GMS P area A2 and we are relying on our satellite communications equipment to make a distress call, if needed.
We are civilians from 17 nations and are on this project to break the siege of Gaza. We are not experienced sailors. As a result, there is concern about the health and safety of the people on board such an emergency develop.
We are currently experiencing rough sea conditions, and we call on the Greek government and the international community to meet their responsibilities and protect the civilians on board our two ships in international waters."
Jamal Al-Khudari, Chairman of the People's committee against the blockade and member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), warned Israel against harming the ships, which are carrying international peace activists and medical supplies for the people of Gaza.
He said in a press conference Saturday morning that organizers had lost contact with the ships for several hours during their voyage due to Israeli distortion frequencies that were broadcast. The ships resumed contact with Gaza later on in the early hours of the morning.
Al-Khudari commended the activists for persevering despite the disturbances, and added that the crew had come across water mines as they entered Gaza waters.
"We will meet them and honor them as heroes," said Al-Khudari.

6 sex mistakes men make
"Hey guys, think you know everything there is to know about having sex with women? That erotic encyclopedia you carry around in your head may contain a lot of basic errors and omissions about women's sexuality -- errors that can lead to sex mistakes.
Sex Mistake No.1: You Know What She Wants
Men often make assumptions about what a woman wants based upon what they've done with other women. But women aren't all the same.
"You develop a repertoire as you mature sexually, but you should never assume that what worked for the last person is going to work for this person," Taormino says.
That applies not only to sexual predilections, but also to relationships, she says. "There are women who can have no-strings-attached sex, and women who can get attached very easily, and then everyone in between."
Sex Mistake No. 2: You Have All She Needs
Some women can't have an orgasm with less than 3,000 rpm. No human tongue or fingers can generate that kind of vibration. But men typically think something is wrong if a woman needs a vibrator.
"If the only way that a woman can achieve orgasm is with a vibrator, she's not broken," Taormino says.
Think of a vibrator as your assistant, not your substitute. Many couples use vibrators together. "While you're doing one thing, or two things, the vibrator can be doing something else," Taormino says.
Sex Mistake No. 3: Sex Feels the Same for Men and Women
Paget says there tends to be a "huge disconnect" between men and women in the ways that sex feels good.
"When a man has intercourse with a woman, and his penis goes into her body, that sensation is so off the charts for most men, they cannot imagine that it isn't feeling the same way for her," Paget says. "It couldn't be further from the truth."
The inside of the vagina is probably less sensitive than the outer parts for most women. Also, deep thrusting may not feel so nice on the receiving end. If the penis is too long, "it feels like you're getting punched in the stomach," Paget says. "It makes you feel nauseous."
Sex Mistake No. 4: You Know Your Way Around a Woman's Anatomy
Most guys know generally what a clitoris is and where to find it. That's not to say that they really understand it.
More than 30 years ago, at the start of the "sexual revolution," a best-selling book called the Joy of Sex got Americans hip to the orgasmic importance of the clitoris. But the belief that women must be able to orgasm from vaginal penetration stubbornly persists.
"I still get letters from people who say things like, my wife can't [orgasm] from intercourse unless she has clitoral stimulation -- please help," Taormino says. "I want to write back and say, 'OK, what's the problem?'"
"For the majority of women, it's not going to happen that way," Paget says.
Men also lack information about how to touch it and how sensitive it is, Taormino says.
A touch that's bliss for one woman may feel like nothing special, or may even be painful for someone else. Some prefer indirect stimulation.
How can you find out how she likes to be touched? Try asking her.
Sex Mistake No. 5: Wet = Turned On
Guys sometimes get hung up if a woman doesn't get slippery enough for easy penetration. Don't worry about it.
"I think there's a myth that if you're turned on, you're wet," Taormino says. Not necessarily.
Some women tend to get wetter than others, and how much natural lubrication a woman has can change from day to day. It varies by the phase of her menstrual cycle, and it's subject to influences like stress and medications.
Sex Mistake No. 6: Silence Is Golden
A lot of guys think they should be silent during sex, but unless you speak up, your partner has to guess what's doing it for you and what isn't.
If you're respectful about it, a woman who wants to please you will probably appreciate some directions.
"I'm not saying push her head in your lap," Taormino says. "I think that, 'this is how I like it,' is a very useful conversation to have." "Hey guys, think you know everything there is to know about having sex with women? That erotic encyclopedia you carry around in y... more -

Malaysia and Indonesia start talks after squabble over love song
Indonesia and Malaysia will start talks in August to bridge cultural differences following a squabble last October over a popular love song, a foreign ministry spokesman said on Friday.
The southeast Asian neighbours had bickered over the song, Rasa Sayang (Feeling of Love), which Indonesians claim as their own but was used by Malaysia in a tourism campaign. The spat sparked calls for a boycott of Malaysian products in Indonesia.

Gorilla refuses to let go of her dead baby
A gorilla at a zoo in the German city of Muenster is refusing to let go of her dead baby's body several days after it died of unknown causes.
Allwetter Zoo spokeswoman Ilona Zuehlke says the 3-month-old male baby died on Saturday but its 11-year-old mother continues to carry its body around. Zuehlke says such behavior is not uncommon to gorillas.
Zuehlke says the mother "is mourning and must say goodbye." The mother gorilla is named Gana.
Signs were posted near Gana's enclosure Wednesday to explain the situation to visitors. A staff member is also present to answer questions.
The baby was named Claudio and was Gana's second baby. She had a female baby in 2007 that now lives at the Stuttgart Zoo. A gorilla at a zoo in the German city of Muenster is refusing to let go of her dead baby's body several days after it died of unk... more -
Widespread sexual imagery hurts men and women
"As the father of five young children, what I find sad about the “bikini billboards” that were around Holland is what it says to our society. Women are viewed as objects to make money and satisfy men’s desires. If women understood their value, they wouldn’t be so willing to dress half-naked in order to make money and/or gain the attention of men.
It is important to remember that all women have families and are someone’s wife or daughter. How wouldyou feel if it was your wife or daughter on billboards, television or walking down the street, dressed in such a way as to be tempting other women’s husbands or fathers?
It is very difficult for husbands to be faithful in their minds and hearts, not to mention physically, to their wife when they see sexually explicit images wherever they go. Adults and children should not be forced to view sexual images in public places, such as magazines covered with half-naked women that you have to stand in front of at the checkout in the grocery stores.
Exploiting women has nothing to do with the freedom of speech. It is about valuing all people: men, women, teenagers, children, babies and unborn babies.
If any of the points I have touched on ring true with you, we should make it clear to businesses that this type of advertising will not help to sell their products."
This is obviously an opinion piece from Holland, so what do you think? Is sexual imagery widespread in the country you live in, and how does it effect your society? "As the father of five young children, what I find sad about the “bikini billboards” that were around Holland is what it says to... more -
