GRITtv: What the Media Missed
So many low moments in the week's political and financial coverage, our guests are having a hard time choosing. Choire Sicha is stuck on the New York Times political pages, so careful about what they can and can't say and yet...the story beyond the horserace seems to slip out of their grasp.
In terms of guilt by association and the Ayers story, Logan Pollard sees a failure to explain Obama's place as a junior player in the Chicago political scene, where the now-wealthy Ayers is an accepted person in the Chicago education community, and Barack Obama's association with him, however tenuous, is no different than that of the mayor of Chicago, Republicans in Chicago, and the philanthropic education community there. As Joe Conason puts it, there's an "inability to turn over the rock."
Joe Conason used to write about the World Anti-Communist League (a.k.a. "WACLE", "the cesspool of world politics," with support from rogues of the world from Rev. Moon to the Japanese organized crime syndicate Yakuza.) Conason fills us in on the McCain/John Singlaub/IranContra/Keating connection. McCain used to sit on the board of WACLE, which apparently was the norm in the conservative political landscape that an ambitious politician in Arizona would associate. WACLE's U.S. Council For World Freedom head Singlaub was a friend of his dad, Admiral McCain. MSM, if you're going to comb through the associations, you need to . . . really comb through the associations. Silencing Indigenous People: Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum promotes Native Ame...
Philosopher Neil Evernden wrote that vivisectionists cut animal vocal cords so they did not have to hear the tortured animal cry as they conducted experiments.
Vivisectionists silenced the animal and therefore did not acknowledge it’s a tortured being.
Right of passage into the scientific way of being centers on the ability to apply the knife to the vocal cords - not just of the dog on the table - but to life itself. It’s about silencing voice then - and reflects the silencing of voices today.
“We are on the tip of an iceberg and the iceberg runs deep and the ship is running right into it. Industrial civilization is not sustainable. We all know that. It cannot be sustainable.”
“We could have solved these problems 50 years ago, but we are not going to solve these problems in the next 20 years. We can start, maybe. But I think we are in for a very, very difficult time. ”
“Dorothy is not in Kansas anymore. And Dorothy is not coming back to Kansas. This is not going to be easy. And like that Great Oz asked Dorothy and her friends - so are the politicians of our day - they ask us. Pay no attention the Great Oz says ‘to the man behind the curtain.’ Because the great deception is alive and well.”
Hubbard compares yellow brick road to gold & Emerald City to the green of money.
Oz is “this old white guy doing his thing, pulling hi levers, lying to the people to maintain is power. This is what we have been doing as a culture for how many years – ignoring the man behind the curtain. And now the chickens are going to come home to roost.”
A failed businessman/store owner, L. Frank Baum edited the Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer newspaper before writing the Wizard of Oz..
After 1890 Wounded Knee massacre, Baum targets Native Americans in editorial for Aberdeen Saturday Pioneer on death of Sioux Chief Sitting Bull.
Hubbard: That was act one. The great Wizard silencing nature.
Baum editorial
Sitting Bull, most renowned Sioux of modern history, is dead. He was not a Chief, but without Kingly lineage he arose from a lowly position to the greatest Medicine Man of his time, by virtue of his shrewdness and daring. He was an Indian with a white man's spirit of hatred and revenge for those who had wronged him and his. In his day he saw his son and his tribe gradually driven from their possessions forced to give up their old hunting grounds and espouse the hard working and uncongenial avocations of the whites. And these, his conquerors, were marked in their dealings with his people by selfishness, falsehood and treachery. What wonder that his wild nature, untamed by years of subjection, should still revolt? What wonder that a fiery rage still burned within his breast and that he should seek every opportunity of obtaining vengeance upon his natural enemies. The proud spirit of the original owners of these vast prairies inherited through centuries of fierce and bloody wars for their possession, lingered last in the bosom of Sitting Bull. With his fall the nobility of the Redskin is extinguished, and what few are left are a pack of whining curs who lick the hand that smites them. The Whites, by law of conquest, by justice of civilization, are masters of the American continent, and the best safety of the frontier settlements will be secured by the total annihilation of the few remaining Indians. Why not annihilation? Their glory has fled, their spirit broken, their manhood effaced; better that they die than live the miserable wretches that they are.

Palin’s Taking Us Back to "McCarthyism".
The acrimonious language in Palin’s speeches, take us back to "McCarthyism". We've all known that Rightdiculous columnists and their nastier Right-Wing talk radio hacks have been doing this rhetoric for years. And that their ditto heads have been soaking it up, in the comfort of their living rooms, where they shout obscenities and hateful oratory, alone or among their kind. Now McCain’s, VP choice allows them a place IN PUBLIC to caterwaul their Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter induced RAGE. It must be a catharses for the pathetic souls who have been listening and reading the unadulterated animosity coming over air waves or in print, directed at some unknown enemy. They now can UNLEASH the bottled up hatred, in the open and have a recognizable foe, thanks to the self-proclaimed pit-bull. The wingnut goons behind desks or microphones must be MIGHTY PROUD! “HURRAY FOR SARAH PALIN!” they shout. She’s harvesting the grotesque seeds of hatred and distortion we’ve so fervently sewn!

'Minnesota nice': McCain calls for calm
The Friday-evening crowd in the Minneapolis suburb of Lakeville was fired up for Sen. John McCain's arrival for a town hall meeting in a hot high school gymnasium.
The senator's supporters jeer after he calls Obama "a decent person."
They largely felt their candidate was getting a bad shake from the national media, and there was a sense throughout the question-and-answer portion of McCain's event that the audience needed to make a point to McCain.
"I'm begging you, Senator, to give them a different choice on Wednesday night," one woman said to McCain, referring to the upcoming presidential debate next Wednesday.
"The people here in Minnesota want to see a real fight this next time you debate," a man said. "We want a strong president to lead us for the next four years."
And a third: "I respectfully tell you that you have to talk a little bit, and bring to the attention of the voters – the press is not going to do it for you – some of the gamey associations, some of the associations that have really marred Obama's life…You gotta do it." Is there a skeleton in John McCain's POW closet?
The Rolling Stone has an article called "Make-Believe Maverick"
23/6 commented on this article, and also referenced John McCain's sensitivity
to his shortness. (Huh?)
The shortness part, isn't why I am blogging this. Because I could care less if McCain is touchy about his lack of tallness. What I did find interesting was in the comment section, at the bottom of the webpage. A comment made by an ex-Air Force officer, who remarked about John McCain's POW HERO status and lack there of. Now I don't know if this ex-Air Force officer knew John McCain or not. But never-the-less, it raises a lot of suspicion about Maverick McCain's Hero Rank. I can't help but wonder, why the Obama Camp doesn't seem interested in using it, the same way the NASTY ONES, on the other side of the political arena would... (THE RED SIDE)
An interesting comment from demogorgon :
As an ex-air force officer (1962-1967) I'm glad it's finally coming out that this man is NO hero! He destroyed 5 airplanes, admitted that he was a "gambler" when he flew; went in alone on a Hanoi target when the bombing run was being called off; and then tried to "outrun" a SAM missile. Things got SO bad that none of his fellow officers wanted to fly with him and he was being re-evaluated for removal from flying status when he was shot down. Words like "reckless", "intemperate" and "lacks common sense" were part of the lexicon of John McCain, naval pilot. I don't mind the "confessions" while he was a POW, that was pretty much SOP, but what I DO mind is that his so-called "selflessness" when he "refused" to accept early release was anything but...he WAS offered early release because of his family connections, but was ORDERED not to accept it! And now, his never-ending use of his "heroism" as if he'd actually been one. He's been a manipulator and a user all his life...EXACTLY the same as George Bush, each being dismally inept or an abject failure at everything they have "attempted"...other than to use family connections to get ahead.
(The end of demogorgon's comment)
---
Holy, "SOP", Batman! If only one third of this is true... it's explosive.
I also know, why the Obama Camp will not use it... We on the Left are above the shitty shenanigans the right-winged ones use... I sincerely hope Obama can win without the dirty, low-down, character assassination tactics the republicans, in all their hatefulness, rely on!!! Come on America elect decency over unscrupulousness for a change. The peace-of-mind you save may be your own! Also on: http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com

Excerpted From The Rolling Stone Magazine:
In its broad strokes, McCain's life story is oddly similar to that of the current occupant of the White House. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward. And both shed their skins as Episcopalian members of the Washington elite to build political careers as self-styled, ranch-inhabiting Westerners who pray to Jesus in their wives' evangelical churches.
